SCHOOL BUILDS
SELECTING & PARTNERING WITH THE COMMUNITY
SSEP identifies communities that need a school build project based on information gathered from the ministry of education database or other community sources. Further information is collected, including meeting with elders of the communities under consideration. SSEP board members then determine the community that best fits the qualifications for the school build. A contract is signed between the village elders and SSEP stating the roles and duties of both parties, most importantly, SSEP provides all the needed materials and skilled labor and the community provides the land, unskilled labor, and some community resources.
COLLABORATING WITH THE GHANAIAN GOVERNMENT
The District Education Service is made aware of SSEP’s intention to build a school. The Ministry of Education then agrees to operate the school after it is built.
PLANNING
The SSEP vocational program engages women from rural and underserved communities in bead and horn making jewelry and design. All SSEP vocational program students are financially compensated at fair trade rates for their work and live in the communities surrounding SSEP partner schools. This gives us an additional way to make a positive impact in our target communities.
AFTER THE SCHOOL BUILDING IS COMPLETE
SSEP maintains a partnership with the community by helping furnish the school with books, desks, and supplies. We continue to invest in the community through educational scholarships, school infrastructure and enrichment projects, medical outreach, and vocational training.
